About Lily House

Lily House Bereavment Support Group

At Lily House, our counsellors have decades of experience in listening and helping people through their grief. You will find them to be dedicated caring individuals who are always ready to go that extra mile.

Lily House was founded in 2024, but is not a new bereavement support group. It is a group that is 'under new management'. The group has been continuously running since 1985, and has been lead by Ann, a counsellor, for the past 16 years. The members and counsellors of the group have all come across to Lily House.

Lily House believes in physical connections. In an era of screens and pixels, we champion physical presence. We reject the cold glow of video calls. Instead we believe in breaking bread together around a table, to share in our grief and laughter.

We believe that one-on-one counselling should be between two people that are in the same room.

Being in the same room allows for direct physical presence. The counsellor can observe your body language, facial expressions, and other nonverbal cues. These subtle signals provide valuable insights into your emotional state and help tailor the counseling approach.  The warmth of a handshake, eye contact, and shared physical space creates a sense of trust and safety. A comforting touch or a tissue handed over can convey care beyond words. The counselling room can become a sacred shared space.

There are three needs of the griever: To find the words for the loss, to say the words aloud and to know that the words have been heard.
